Ingredients
- 6 slices bacon
- 1 (32-ounce) package frozen bite-size potato nuggets
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup sour cream, for serving
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped, for serving
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
Step 2 –Cook the bacon in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until crispy on both sides, about 10 minutes.
Step 3 –Place the bacon on a paper-towel-lined plate and reserve the bacon grease in the skillet.
Step 4 –Reduce the heat to medium and add the potato nuggets to the skillet.
Step 5 –Season the potato nuggets with the garlic salt and toss until evenly coated.
Step 6 –Cook the potato nuggets, turning carefully with a spatula once or twice, until the outsides are crisp, about 10 minutes.
Step 7 –Transfer the skillet from the heat.
Step 8 –Carefully transfer 1/2 of the potato nuggets to a plate and spread out the remaining nuggets in a single layer in the skillet.
Step 9 –Top the potato nuggets in the skillet with 1/2 of the cheddar cheese.
Step 10 –Place the remaining potato nuggets on top of the cheese layer and then top with the remaining cheese.
Step 11 –Bake the tot casserole until the potato nuggets are warmed through and the cheese is melted and starts to turn golden-brown, about 10 minutes.
Step 12 –While the nuggets are baking, crumble the cooked bacon.
Step 13 –Transfer the tot bake from the oven and top with the crumbled bacon, the sour cream, and the green onions.
Step 14 –Serve.
