Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 (21-ounce) cans of cherry pie filling

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk, 2%

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan.

Step 3 –In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4 –Add the eggs to the butter mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 5 –Beat 1 teaspoon of the vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon of the almond extract into the butter mixture.

Step 6 –Gradually add the flour to the butter mixture, continuously beating, until combined.

Step 7 –Spread 3 cups of the dough into the prepared baking dish.

Step 8 –Spread the dough in the dish with the pie filling.

Step 9 –Drop the remaining dough by teaspoonfuls over the filling.

Step 10 –Bake the dough until golden brown, about 35-40 minutes.

Step 11 –Allow the pastry to cool completely on a wire rack.
