Directions

Step 1 –In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, the ground sirloin, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, and the pepper.

Step 2 –Gently mix the beef mixture to thoroughly combine it with the seasoning, taking care not to over-work the meat.

Step 3 –Divide the mixture into four even portions and pat each portion into a ball, then press each ball into a 1-inch-thick patty with a small divot in the center.

Step 4 –Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 5 –Add 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil to the pan and swirl to coat.

Step 6 –Place the patties in the skillet and let them cook until the bottoms are golden and crusty, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 7 –Flip the patties and top them with the American cheese slices.

Step 8 –Cover the pan and cook the other side of the burgers until the internal temperature of the burgers reaches at least 135 degrees F (medium-rare), about 3 more minutes. Cook for a few minutes longer for a more done burger. Covering the pan is critical to help the cheese become melty.

Step 9 –Add the patties to the toasted buns and top them with your favorite burger toppings.

Step 10 –Serve.
