Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 cups onion, chopped
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
- chips, optional, to taste, for serving
Directions
Step 1 –In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
Step 2 –Add the onions and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt to the hot oil and cook, while stirring, until the onion is caramelized and golden-brown in color, about 20 minutes.
Step 3 –Transfer the caramelized onions from the heat and allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Step 4 –In a bowl, add the sour cream, the mayonnaise, the garlic powder, the white pepper, and the remaining salt and mix to combine.
Step 5 –Add the cooled onions and stir to combine.
Step 6 –Cover and refrigerate the dip for at least 2 hours.
Step 7 –Serve with the chips.
