Dr Pepper® Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

The fruity, cola flavors of Dr Pepper® can actually bring out the tang and smokiness of barbeque sauce and the natural savoriness of the pork. Dr Pepper Slow Cooker Pulled Pork combines all of these flavors together into a tender, juicy dish perfect for piling on a bun, baked, or even mac and cheese. It’s perfect for family gatherings or for easy weeknight meals since Dr Pepper Slow Cooker Pulled Pork only needs 5 minutes of prep time before braising in the slow cooker. Ingredients

  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 (4-5-pound) pork butt or pork shoulder roast
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 can Dr Pepper
  • 3/4 cup barbecue sauce

Directions

Step 1 –Add the sliced onions to the bottom of the slow cooker.

Step 2 –Season the roast by rubbing the outside of it with the salt, the pepper, and the garlic powder.

Step 3 –Place the seasoned roast into the slow cooker on top of the onions.

Step 4 –Pour the can of Dr Pepper over the pork-onion mixture.

Step 5 –Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 7-8 hours. The meat will be very tender.

Step 6 –Using tongs, take the roast out of the slow cooker and place it onto a large rimmed baking pan.

Step 7 –Using two forks, shred the pork.

Step 8 –Add the shredded pork back into the slow cooker with the juices.

Step 9 –Pour the barbecue sauce into the slow cooker and stir until it is well combined with the pork and the juices and cooking liquid.

Step 10 –Place the lid back on the slow cooker and cook on low until warmed through, about 30 minutes.

Step 11 –Serve warm.
