Fake News Chicken

Extra, extra! Read all about it! Fake News Chicken floors the dinner guests yet again! You won’t believe your taste buds as you slice into these completely meat-free patties that taste a whole lot like chicken. Even the texture appears to look like your standard chicken breast, but alas, it’s not one! With the workings of a few mystery ingredients, all your veggie-only-eating friends will rejoice. It’s time to cancel poultry, because Fake News Chicken is taking over!

Ingredients

  • 4 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 bay leaf

Directions

Step 1 –In a large bowl, add the flour and the water and use your hands to knead it until it is well-combined.

Step 2 –Cover the bowl and let the flour mixture rest, about 1 hour.

Step 3 –Thoroughly rinse the dough mixture under cold water until the water in the bowl runs clear.

Step 4 –Drain the water.

Step 5 –Season the dough mixture with the sweet paprika, the smoked paprika, the garlic, the thyme, the mustard, the salt, and the pepper and knead to combine.

Step 6 –Let the dough mixture rest at room temperature, about 45 minutes.

Step 7 –Pull the dough into a long rope, then tie it into a knot.

Step 8 –In a frying pan over medium heat, add the knotted dough and fry on both sides.

Step 9 –Add the broth and the bay leaf to the dough knot to deglaze the pan.

Step 10 –Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid. Cook, about 40 minutes.

Step 11 –Serve.
