NCLEX is also known as The National Council Licensure Examination is a nationwide examination for licensing all sorts of nurses in the United States of America, Australia and Canada. This nurse-oriented national examination has been introduced in 1982 in the United States of America, 2015 in Australia and in 2020 in Canada.
It seems like the national exam was very recently introduced in Australia and Canada. This exam is of two different types and they are NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN. The NCLEX-RN is only for registered nurses in the country and the NCLEX-PN is for vocational or practical nurses in the country. NCLEX examinations are designed to test all sorts of knowledge related to the nursing world.

|As many as eight times
Taking up NCLEX examinations has only one purpose for the candidate. The purpose is to determine if it is safe for the candidate to begin with the practice as an entry-level nurse. Now, this is very much different from any of the test that the individual had taken from any unknown nursing school. As you know that nursing school examinations are knowledge-based and it is the same with NCLEX examinations.
To give an NCLEX exam you need to follow a different format very strictly. The examinations are organised according to a framework that says, ‘Meeting Client Needs’. In this exam, you get four important categories and eight different subcategories. This examination tests the knowledge, abilities, smart work, and skills that are essential for the entry-level or beginners nurses in order to meet the needs of the patients or clients.
Interestingly, both the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN are computerised tests, the questions are multiple-choice questions. You also get multiple-response questions, fill-in-the-blanks and some other related types. Also, the candidate has to keep in mind that NCLEX examinations use a pass-fail scoring system even though their exam is based on multiple choices questions.
Why Does It Take That Long After Graduating To Take NCLEX?
The earliest date that an individual can apply for NCLEX examinations can vary highly as per the state where they live. But, to stay on the safer side you have to consider forty-five days approximately to apply for such tests. As when you are graduated they will be needing all sort of applications, documents related to your degree and then you will be called for the examinations so that takes up few weeks of time.
You can take NCLEX examinations eight times a year but with 45 days waiting period not before that. To apply for an NCLEX examination you will be needing the following documents
- Present one form of acceptable ID proof
- ATT on the day of examination
- Passport is also acceptable
These are the basic requirements for the United States of America but that could differ from countries. Other states or countries may include you to have the following:
- Social Emergency or Security Number
- English Proficiency test
The candidate will need a different kind of preparations to be involved in the test. Some questions may be very easy than the passing standard, while others may be very difficult. Interestingly, no two students will have the same answer. The tests automatically adapt to your responses and then it attempts to determine your level of knowledge and skills.
The candidate may be required to answer as few as seventy-five questions or as many as 270 of them. The test may take from two hours to six hours of your time to complete. It will be much better if you come prepared.
Any examinations around the world need a good amount of preparation if you are in a hurry you will surely spoil it. You should come prepared for what you are going to attend or face in the examination hall. NCLEX examinations might sound easy but as you keep on answering the easy questions you tend to get more difficult questions automatically.
The better you do the early questions, the faster you will be finishing or completing the test and automatically the higher the scores will be.
