Ingredients
For the bread:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups tart apples, chopped and peeled
For the topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons walnuts, chopped
- 1/3 cup butter, cold
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 –Grease two 8×4-inch loaf pans.
Step 3 –In a large bowl, combine the 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 cups sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and ground cinnamon.
Step 4 –In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, applesauce, canola oil, and vanilla.
Step 5 –Stir the wet ingredients mixture into the dry ingredients mixture until just moistened.
Step 6 –Fold in the apples.
Step 7 –Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pans.
Step 8 –Combine the remaining flour, remaining sugar, and walnuts.
Step 9 –Cut the butter into the walnut mixture until crumbly.
Step 10 –Sprinkle the topping mixture over the batter.
Step 11 –Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaves comes out clean, about 45-55 minutes.
Step 12 –Cool 10 minutes before transferring the loaves from the pans to a wire rack.
