Pan-Fried Tilapia

Tilapia is a great go-to fish because you can always find it at the grocery store! Its mild flavor blends nicely with a wide range of toppings and seasoning, as the Pan-Fried Tilapia demonstrates. This lightly fried recipe is crispy and flaky with a touch of heat and sweetness, perfect for pairing with potatoes or a slaw salad. Pan-Fried Tilapia takes less than half an hour to make so it can become a weeknight favorite in no time!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 4 (5-6-ounce) tilapia fillets
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil, divided

Directions

Step 1 –Combine the flour, the garlic powder, the onion powder, the chili powder, and the cumin in a bowl.

Step 2 –Season the tilapia fillets with the salt and the pepper.

Step 3 –Place each fillet in the flour mixture and tap off any excess.

Step 4 –Heat a large skillet over medium heat on the stovetop.

Step 5 –Add 1 tablespoon of the oil.

Step 6 –Once the oil is hot, cook 2 of the fillets at a time until the exterior is a golden-brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

Step 7 –Repeat these steps with the other 2 fillets.

StepĀ 8Ā –Serve immediately.
