This breakfast is feeling hot, hot, hot! Spicy Bacon Strata is a bed of fluffy eggs (already a good start to the day) and is loaded with cubes of bread for extra heartiness, bacon for succulence, savory flavor, and crispiness, and jalapeño for that tantalizing heat! No need for hot sauce on your eggs when all that spice is embedded in each and every bite of Spicy Bacon Strata. This will launch your tastebuds into the “strata-sphere!”
Ingredients
- 9 eggs, divided
- 3 1/2 cups milk, divided
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- 1 loaf crusty bread, cut into cubes
- 12 ounces bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 jalapeño pepper, chopped
- 6 ounces cheese, grated
Directions
Step 1 –In a large bowl, whisk 8 of the eggs, 3 cups of the milk, the salt, and the pepper together.
Step 2 –In an 8×8-inch baking pan, layer 1/2 of the bread cubes into the bottom.
Step 3 –On top of the bread, scatter 1/2 of the bacon, then 1/2 of the jalapeño, and 1/2 of the cheese.
Step 4 –Pour 1/2 of the egg mixture over the layers and allow it to soak in. Use a spoon to create nooks, if needed, pressing down with the back of the spoon.
Step 5 –Repeat the layers once, starting with the bread and ending with the egg mixture.
Step 6 –Top the layers with the remaining cheese.
Step 7 –Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 12 hours and up to 24 hours.
Step 8 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 9 –If the mixture seems a bit dry after chilling, whisk together the remaining egg and the remaining milk with the salt and the pepper. Pour it over the top of the dish.
Step 10 –Bake until the top of the strata is puffy and crisp, about 1 hour.
Step 11 –Serve.
