Sweet Morning Rolls

Ingredients

For the rolls:

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup water

For the filling:

  • 1 cup strawberry jam
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups strawberries, sliced

For the icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

Directions

Step 1 –Grease an 11×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2 –In a small saucepan, heat 3/4 cup of the milk until warm.

Step 3 –Mix the butter into the warmed milk until the butter melts.

Step 4 –Transfer the butter/milk mixture away from the heat and allow it to cool to lukewarm.

Step 5 –In a large bowl, combine 2 1/4 cups of the flour, the yeast, the sugar, and the salt. Mix well.

Step 6 –Stir the eggs and the water into the flour mixture and mix well.

Step 7 –Stir the butter/milk mixture into the flour mixture until a dough forms.

Step 8 –Stir the remaining flour into the dough.

Step 9 –When the dough comes together, flip it onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.

Step 10 –Return the dough ball to the bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rest for 10 minutes.

Step 11 –On a clean, flat surface, roll the dough out into a 15×10-inch rectangle.

Step 12 –Spread the strawberry jam all over the rolled-out dough.

Step 13 –Sprinkle the jam with 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon.

Step 14 –Evenly cover the cinnamon-covered jam with the strawberries.

Step 15 –Roll up the dough and pinch the seam to seal.

Step 16 –Cut the rolled-up dough into 12 equal-sized rolls.

Step 17 –Place the rolls, cut side up, in the prepared baking dish.

Step 18 –Cover the rolls and let them rise until they have doubled in size, about 30 minutes.

Step 19 –While the rolls rise, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 20 –Bake until the rolls are golden brown, about 30 minutes.

Step 21 –While the rolls bake, in a bowl, mix the powdered sugar, the remaining cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of the milk. Stir until a glaze forms. You may need to add the remaining tablespoon of the milk to reach the desired consistency.

Step 22 –Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls.

Step 23 –Serve warm.
