Ingredients

For the ribs:

  • 2 pounds baby back ribs
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne

For the barbecue sauce:

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.

Step 2 –Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Step 3 –If your ribs have a membrane over the bones on the backside, remove them by carefully sliding a knife under the membrane and peeling it away.

Step 4 –In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, the pepper, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder, and the cayenne.

Step 5 –Rub the spice mixture over the ribs on all sides.

Step 6 –Place the ribs on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 7 –Cover the ribs with the foil and bake until very tender, about 2 hours.

Step 8 –While the ribs roast, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the ketchup, the remaining brown sugar, water, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, the remaining salt, the remaining garlic powder, onion powder, the remaining mustard powder, and the remaining paprika.

Step 9 –Bring the sauce mixture to a boil.

Step 10 –Reduce the heat to low and let simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 1 hour.

Step 11 –Turn the oven to broil.

Step 12 –Remove the foil from the ribs and brush both sides with the barbecue sauce.

Step 13 –Broil the ribs until the sauce just starts to caramelize, about 2-4 minutes.

Step 14 –Serve hot.
