Uncle Danny’s Eggnog

Uncle Danny always said that it couldn’t be the holidays without a tall glass of eggnog in hand. So, he took it upon himself to make sure the holidays arrived on time with his own eggnog recipe, which you have to share with everyone in the Christmas spirit! Uncle Danny’s Eggnog is a rich and impossibly creamy brew, with notes of smooth floral vanilla and the warmth of nutmeg. A little bourbon adds smokiness and malt flavor to the mix which you’ll be smiling about as you sip! Just try not to have a good time with Uncle Danny’s Eggnog; we guarantee it’s impossible!

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs, whites and yolks separated
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg, plus more for garnish
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Directions

Step 1 –Beat the egg yolks in a bowl.

Step 2 –Slowly add 1/4 cup of the sugar to the egg yolks and mix until dissolved.

Step 3 –Add the vanilla extract, the nutmeg, and the salt to the egg yolk mixture, continuing to mix until the mixture is very thick and pale yellow in color.

Step 4 –Slowly beat in the bourbon, the milk, and the heavy cream into the yolk mixture.

Step 5 –Cover and chill the yolk mixture for at least 1 hour in the fridge.

Step 6 –Whip the egg whites to soft peaks.

Step 7 –Gradually beat the remaining sugar into the egg whites and beat again until soft peaks form.

Step 8 –Add the egg whites to the chilled egg yolk mixture, folding it gently.

Step 9 –Serve the eggnog in mugs or Irish coffee glasses garnished with the extra nutmeg.
