5-Spice Flank Steak

Take five and make 5-Spice Flank Steak! Okay, you’ll need a little longer than that, but all you do need is your favorite Chinese five spice blend, a bit of salt, and a dash of hoisin sauce to make a dish worthy of five stars! Served with a fresh and crunchy Asian-inspired salad, 5-Spice Flank Steak is the quintessential dish you need to add to your rotation!

  • 1 (1.5-pound) flank steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce, plus more, to taste, for serving
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice blend
  • 1 (10.6-ounce) bag Asian salad kit with sesame dressing
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Step 1 -Lightly score the surface of the flank steak with a sharp knife.

Step 2 -Season both sides of the flank steak with the salt, then place it on a rimmed baking sheet.

Step 3 -In a small bowl, add 1/2 cup of the hoisin sauce and the five spice blend and mix to combine.

Step 4 -Pour the hoisin-spice mixture over the flank steak, ensuring it is completely coated.

Step 5 -Transfer the baking dish to the refrigerator and let the flank steak marinate, for at least 1 hour and up to 8 hours.

Step 6 -Preheat the grill to 350 degrees F.

Step 7 -Place the marinated flank steak on the grill and cook until it reaches an internal temperature of at least 135 degrees F for medium-rare doneness, about 6 minutes per side.

Step 8 -Transfer the flank steak to a plate and let it rest, about 5 minutes.

Step 9 -In a large bowl, toss the salad kit according to the package directions and sprinkle with the sesame seeds.

Step 10 -Thinly slice the steak against the grain.

Step 11 -Plate the steak with the salad.

Step 12 -Serve the steak drizzled with the extra hoisin sauce.
