Classic Smoked Turkey

Your Thanksgiving just got even more delicious. This Classic Smoked Turkey recipe takes those already delicious holiday flavors to never-before-reached heights! Intensely seasoned with garlic on the outside, stuffed with apple, onion, and butter on the inside, this turkey is festive and filling! Smoking imparts even more dimension to each bite and makes it melt-in-your-mouth tender. Classic Smoked Turkey tastes like a Norman Rockwell painting of Thanksgiving and brings just as many smiles! All you need is a smoker and some time!

Ingredients

  • 1 (10-pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 (12-ounce) cans cola-flavored soda
  • 1 apple, quartered
  • 1 onion, peeled and quartered
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the smoker to 225-250 degrees F.

Step 2 -Rinse the turkey under cold water, then pat dry.

Step 3 -Rub the crushed garlic all over the outside of the turkey. Then sprinkle with the seasoned salt.

Step 4 -Set the turkey in a disposable roasting pan.

Step 5 -Mix the cola, the butter, the onion, the apple, the garlic powder, the salt, and the ground black pepper.

Step 6 -Then, fill the turkey cavity up with the cola mixture.

Step 7 -Loosely cover the turkey with foil.

Step 8 -Place the turkey in the smoker, smoking until the internal temperature reads 180 degrees F when measured in the thickest part of the thigh, for 10 hours.

Step 9 -Baste the turkey every 1-2 hours with the juices from the bottom of the roasting pan.

Step 10 -Let the turkey rest for a few minutes to ensure maximum juiciness, then serve!
