Ingredients
- 4-6 slices of Applewood-smoked bacon, cut into 1-inch slices
- 1/3 cup onion, diced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, washed and ends trimmed
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- 3 quarts of water, plus more as needed
- unsalted butter, optional, to taste
Directions
Step 1 –In a large dutch oven, fry the bacon slices over medium-high heat until almost cooked through on both sides, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 2 –Add the onion and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
Step 3 –Add the green beans and the water.
Step 4 –Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until the green beans are fork-tender and cooked through, for about 15-30 minutes.
Step 5 –Drain the water.
Step 6 –Season the green beans with salt, pepper, and butter.
Step 7 –Serve hot.
