Comfort Casserole

Well, what better dish to make than this Comfort Casserole?! It’s so easy and so tasty, and encompasses everything you’re craving after all that hard work you did. There’s nothing better than a big plateful of tender and creamy macaroni mixed with juicy ham, melty cheese, smooth peas, and crunchy, crispy fried onions after a long day. It really replenishes all the energy you exerted making deals and taking names. So, go ahead! Kick off those uncomfortable formal shoes… you’re home now! Ingredients

  • 3 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup ham, cubed
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 (10.75-ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 (6-ounce) can crispy fried onions, crushed

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Step 3 –In a pot of salted boiling water, cook the macaroni to al dente, according to the package directions. Drain the water.

Step 4 –In large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter.

Step 5 –Stir the ham and the onion into the melted butter and cook until the onion is tender, about 5 minutes.

Step 6 –Stir the garlic into the ham mixture and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 7 –Transfer the skillet from the heat.

Step 8 –Add the cooked macaroni, the cheddar cheese, the cream of celery soup, the peas, the milk, the sour cream, the onion powder, and the garlic powder to the ham mixture and mix well.

Step 9 –Bake the casserole until the cheese has melted, about 25 minutes.

Step 10 –Sprinkle the crispy fried onions over the casserole and bake until it is golden, about 5 minutes.

Step 11 –Serve.
