Fried Cheese Curds

Just make sure you make enough, because they tend to vanish in a hurry!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups lager beer
  • 16 ounces cheese curds
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups vegetable oil
  • preferred dipping sauce, optional, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –In a large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the beer.

Step 2 –Place the cheese curds in a mesh strainer.

Step 3 –Using the strainer, submerge the curds in the beer and buttermilk mixture.

Step 4 –In another large bowl, combine the flour, the baking powder, the salt, and the pepper.

Step 5 –In a Dutch oven, heat the oil to 375 degrees.

Step 6 –Remove the curds from the buttermilk mixture and drain.

Step 7 –Dredge the cheese curds in the flour mixture.

Step 8 –Fry the cheese curds in batches until golden brown, about 1-3 minutes.

Step 9 –Transfer the fried cheese curds to a paper towel to drain.

Step 10 –Serve!
