Directions

Step 1 –In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon of the sugar in the warm water.

Step 2 –Let the yeast mixture sit until bubbly and foamy, about 5-10 minutes.

Step 3 –Add 1/2 cup the softened butter, the warm milk, the egg, the remaining sugar, and the salt to the yeast mixture.

Step 4 –Add 2 cups of the flour to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.

Step 5 –Mix the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, to the yeast mixture to form a soft dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Step 6 –Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.

Step 7 –Shape the dough into a ball.

Step 8 –Place the dough ball in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Step 9 –Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

Step 10 –Gently punch down the risen dough and divide it into two balls.

Step 11 –Roll the balls out into circles that are about 12-inches-wide. Use a pizza cutter to cut both of the circles into 12 wedges.

Step 12 –Roll the wedges of dough up, starting at the wide end, to form a crescent shape.

Step 13 –Place the crescents on the prepared baking sheet, cover, and let rise until they double in size, about 30 minutes-1 hour.

Step 14 –While the dough is rising, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 15 –Bake the crescents until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.

Step 16 –Transfer the crescents from the oven and brush them with the remaining melted butter.

Step 17 –Serve.
