Lunchtime Sloppy Joes

A quick weekend lunch doesn’t need to be fancy, but it does need to be delicious! Lunchtime Sloppy Joes are nostalgia-packed and truly tasty, evoking those pleasant memories of cafeteria lunches just before rushing out to the playground. The beef filling is savory and tangy, loaded with fragrant flavors and subtle sweetness before it’s all piled onto a bun. Rustic and wholesome, Lunchtime Sloppy Joes make enough for two… but you may not want to share!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef, 90% lean
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 hamburger buns, split

Directions

Step 1 –In a saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 2 –Drain the fat from the saucepan.

Step 3 –Add the ketchup, the water, the brown sugar, the Worcestershire sauce, the mustard, the garlic powder, the onion powder, and the salt to the ground beef and stir to combine.

Step 4 –Bring the beef mixture to a boil.

Step 5 –Reduce the heat and cover the saucepan.

Step 6 –Simmer the beef mixture until thickened and the flavors meld together, about 30-40 minutes.

Step 7 –Serve the Sloppy Joe mixture on the buns.
