The answer is after the wound is completely healed which takes around 3-4weeks. The process can be due to family tradition, religious beliefs, medical conditions, or personal health care.

Circumcision is mainly done for:
Phimosis: The condition in which the foreskin of the penis cannot stretch due to which it is difficult to pull back which results in pain during erection. It can occur naturally or due to scarring. The main symptom is having difficulty in retracting the foreskin by the age of 3. The foreskin loosens over time, for some, it may take time. Another symptom is swelling of the foreskin while urinating.

Balanoposthitis: the condition in which inflammation of glanspenis is called balanitis. When the glans penis is inflamed along with the affected foreskin then the condition is called balanoposthitis. Proper hygiene should be maintained to avoid balanoposthitis. Non-infectious conditions like injuries or accidents, irritation due to scratching and rubbing, the tight foreskin can also cause balanoposthitis.

Paraphimosis: the condition in which the foreskin of the penis cannot pull forward which affects blood flow towards the penis. Paraphimosis is always confused by phimosis. The main causes are having an infection, forcefully pulling back the foreskin, foreskin tighter than usual foreskin, etc. It should be treated earlier, if not treated at the time it can cause infection at the tip of the penis, infection, or tissue death which results in removal of the tip of the penis.

Other than medical reasons people do circumcision on religious belief. Circumcision is mainly done by Jews and Muslims which they consider as an act to show faith in god.

Why Does It Take Long to Swim After a Circumcision?

In infants, it’s not a complicated procedure. It’s mainly done from birth to 8-9 weeks when the foreskin is thin. In adults, it is a little longer procedure. It takes around 30 min or an hour. In adults, anesthesia is given before the procedure to sedate.

During the procedure, the foreskin is pulled away from the penis, and a measurement is taken of how much skin should be removed. In infants, the skin is removed. In adults, the skin is burned off or stitched. After surgery, the penis is properly dressed. If there is no infection or any issue the patient can leave the hospital the same day itself.

It may take around 2-3 weeks to completely recover. It is common to experience swelling or bruises during the initial few days. For the first few days proper care should be given, proper and cleaned dressing should be done to avoid the risk of having an infection.

After a day or 2, it is easier to walk. It is advised to take things slow do not run into physical activities without the permission of the doctor.

Showers can be taken after one day of surgery. The dressing should be reapplied after showering. It is always advised not to go swimming or any beach trip for 3-4 weeks as it can increase the risk of getting an infection or it can open the stitches. It is advised not to have any sexual intercourse for almost 6weeks.

Patients can get back to normal activities, but strenuous activities should be avoided for almost 6 weeks.

The impact or result of circumcision differs from people. If it’s done for the religious belief, it’s more of a personal matter.
Beliefs related to circumcision are that it ensures that the risk of sexually transmitted infections to be minimal. Also, the risk of getting urinary tract infections is reduced.

There are risks while having circumcision in adult-like bleeding, injuries during the process, having infections if not done properly or not taken care of properly.

Adult circumcision is a small process with little risk if not taken care of properly. It’s important to communicate with the doctor about the condition before the procedure to have a successful surgery.
