And yet, this Sloppy Joe Dip is going to be the mind-blowing appetizer of the season! Tangy, sweet, smoky, savory, and truly, amazingly beefy, Sloppy Joe Dip tastes like those classic school lunches, just topped with a layer of melty, sharp cheddar! Ingredients
- 2 pounds extra lean ground beef
- 2 green bell peppers, diced
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- cayenne pepper, to taste
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded, divided
- toast, to taste, for serving
Directions
Step 1 –In a heavy pot, add the ground beef, the bell peppers, the onion, the garlic, the flour, the brown sugar, the salt, the pepper, and the cayenne pepper.
Step 2 –Place the pot over medium-high heat, stirring to break up the beef mixture.
Step 3 –While stirring, cook until most of the moisture has evaporated and the beef mixture is beginning to brown, about 15 minutes.
Step 4 –Stir in the chicken broth, the ketchup, the Dijon mustard, and the Worcestershire sauce.
Step 5 –Mix well, bring the beef mixture to a simmer, and then reduce the heat to medium.
Step 6 –Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef mixture is thick, about 45 minutes.
Step 7 –Set an oven rack 6 inches from the heat and preheat the oven’s broiler.
Step 8 –Transfer the beef mixture to an oven-proof saucepan.
Step 9 –Top the beef mixture with 1/2 of the shredded cheese.
Step 10 –Poke the cheese down into the beef mixture with a fork and stir lightly.
Step 11 –Top the beef-cheese mixture with the remaining cheese.
Step 12 –Place the pan under the broiler and broil until the cheese is browned and the beef mixture is hot and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
Step 13 –Serve with the toast.
