Ingredients

For the turkey:

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

For serving:

  • hamburger buns, to taste
  • coleslaw, optional, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –Combine the turkey, the onion, and the garlic in a large skillet.

Step 2 –Cook the turkey mixture over medium heat until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3 –Drain the skillet of fat.

Step 4 –Add the green pepper and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.

Step 5 –Add the tomato sauce, the ketchup, the cider vinegar, the brown sugar, the Worcestershire sauce, the chili powder, and the yellow mustard and stir to combine.

Step 6 –Simmer the mixture uncovered until thickened, about 5-6 minutes.

Step 7 –Spoon the mixture over the hamburger buns.

Step 8 –Add the coleslaw and serve.
