  • 1 pound butter, room temperature
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted, plus more, to taste, for dusting a pan
  • 3/4 cup whole milk or 2% milk
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract, optional
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease and flour a 10×4-inch, 12-cup tube pan.

Step 3 –In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter and the sugar until well-incorporated.

Step 4 –Add the eggs to the butter mixture, one at a time, and beat between each addition until well-incorporated.

Step 5 –Alternate slowly adding 4 cups of the flour and the milk to the batter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour, and mix after each addition until blended.

Step 6 –Stir the almond extract and the vanilla extract into the batter.

Step 7 –Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Step 8 –Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour 25 minutes.

Step 9 –Cool the cake in the pan on a wire rack, about 20-30 minutes.

Step 10 –Invert the pan and transfer the cake onto a serving tray.

Step 11 –Serve.
