Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened but still cool
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups M&M’s or a mixture of M&M’s and chocolate chips, divided

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Line two baking trays with parchment paper.

Step 3 –In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set it aside.

Step 4 –In a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light, about 2 minutes.

Step 5 –Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar, mixing it until it is combined and scraping the sides of the bowl when needed.

Step 6 –Using the low-speed setting on the mixture, add in the dry ingredient mixture and mix until fully combined.

Step 7 –Lightly add in the 3/4 of the M&M’s or chocolate chips.

Step 8 –Spoon out balls of the dough between 1 1/2-2 1/2 tablespoons.

Step 9 –Drop the dough onto the prepared baking trays, leaving 1-2-inches apart for spreading.

Step 10 –Press the remaining M&M’s or chocolates onto the top of each cookie.

Step 11 –Bake the cookies until the edges are set but the center is still slightly underdone, about 8-11 minutes. For a crispier cookie, continue baking for 1-2 minutes.

Step 12 –Put the baking trays on racks and let the cookies cool completely. They will firm up as they cool. If you want a thicker cookie, you can gently press the edges of each cookie inward with the back of a spoon while they are still warm.

Step 13 –Serve.
