Slow Cooker Mulled Wine

Mulled wine dates all the way back to the 2nd century; Romans drank it during the cold winters to heat up their bodies. To this day, mulled wine is a holiday tradition. This recipe for Slow Cooker Mulled Wine is delicious and will warm you right up from the inside out! Each sip bounces with red wine, apple cider, sweet honey, zesty orange, spicy cloves, cinnamon, and more. Ingredients

  • 1 (750-ml) bottle red wine, such as merlot, zinfandel, or cabernet sauvignon
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 2 cinnamon sticks, plus more, to taste, for serving
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • orange slices, optional, to taste, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 -In a 3-quart or larger slow cooker, combine the red wine, the apple cider, the honey, the orange juice, the orange zest, the cloves, the cardamom, 2 of the cinnamon sticks, and the star anise.

Step 2 -Cover the slow cooker and cook on low until warm, about 30 minutes-1 hour.

Step 3 -Stir in the brandy and ladle the beverage into mugs.

Step 4 -Garnish the mugs with the orange slices and the cinnamon sticks and serve.
