Smoked Cream Cheese

This appetizer dip might require patience, but good things really do come to those who wait! Smoked Cream Cheese brings out a new dimension to the creamy, tangy richness of cream cheese; a deep umami smokiness that can only come from slow smoking it on the grill. A sprinkling of your favorite seasoning elevates every scoop of it! Smoked Cream Cheese is a distinguished appetizer that everyone is going to love!

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
  • 1 tablespoon seasoning of your choice, such as taco seasoning, everything bagel seasoning, cinnamon-sugar, Italian seasoning, or curry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • bagel chips, optional, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –Using two pieces of layered foil, create a dish by folding and crimping the edges, forming a lip all around.

Step 2 –Unwrap the cream cheese and place it in the center of the foil dish.

Step 3 –Gently score the top of the cream cheese with a knife, cutting about 1/4-inch-deep.

Step 4 –Sprinkle the cream cheese evenly with the seasoning of your choice, making sure to cover all sides.

Step 5 –Pour the olive oil over the cream cheese.

Step 6 –Preheat the grill for indirect heat at 250 degrees F. On a gas grill, turn off the center burners.

Step 7 –Add the smoking chips of your choice to the grill.

Step 8 –Place the foil dish on the grill and close the grill top.

Step 9 –Smoke the cream cheese until darkened and the score marks open up, about 2-3 hours. The darkening might be subtle, but the smoky flavor will be infused.
