Staycation Burgers

Why go anywhere when you can take your tastebuds to wherever they’re craving, all while staying in the comfort of your home?! That’s it. This calls for a staycation and Staycation Burgers are our first flavor destination! These aren’t just any old burgers either. Nope, they’re a tasty escape with tender and savory beef patties resting between fluffy sesame buns. And that’s just the beginning! These hospitable handhelds bring you a taste of the tropics thanks to the sweet and juicy pineapple rings piled on top. There’s a little bit of tangy onion, melty cheese, and crispy bacon stacked on top, too, to make sure you have all the delicious accommodations you could ever want. Staycation Burgers take you to the beach without getting sand everywhere, and we think you’re going to love the journey!

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) can sliced pineapple
  • 3/4 cup reduced-sodium teriyaki sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced
  • 4 sesame seed or onion buns, split and toasted
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 bacon strips, cooked

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the grill to medium heat.

Step 2 –Drain the pineapple juice into a small bowl and add the teriyaki sauce, reserving the slices.

Step 3 –Add 3 tablespoons of the teriyaki mixture to a resealable plastic bag.

Step 4 –Add the pineapple slices to the resealable bag and toss them in the teriyaki mixture to coat.

Step 5 –Shape the beef into 4 patties and then place them in an 8-inch square baking dish.

Step 6 –Pour the remaining teriyaki sauce mixture over the patties and marinate, turning once, about 5-10 minutes.

Step 7 –Transfer the patties to the grill and cook them, covered, until an instant thermometer inserted into the center reads 160 degrees F, about 6-9 minutes per side.

Step 8 –Heat the butter in a small skillet.

Step 9 –Add the onion slices to the butter and sauté until they are tender, about 5 minutes.

Step 10 –Transfer the pineapple slices onto the grill and cook until heated through.

Step 11 –Layer the bottom buns with the lettuce leaves and the cooked onion slices.

Step 12 –Top the cooked onions with the cooked burgers, the cheese slices, the cooked pineapple slices, the bacon strips, and the top buns.

Step 13 –Serve.
