If you’re on day three of Turkey Day leftovers and you’re just about tired of them, stop! Don’t throw them away. This Thanksgiving Cuban is worthy of another round of the holiday classics you’re growing weary of. Once you’re sinking your teeth into the crispy Cuban bread, you’ll completely forget that you’ve had the same familiar flavors for lunch and dinner for what seems like forever. The addition of juicy pickles, tangy mustard, and melty sweet cheese melded together with all that leftover turkey, ham, and cranberry will trick your taste buds into eating it on repeat until all that remains is no more! Trust us! Thanksgiving Cuban is the saving grace you need to save some dollars and your senses!
Ingredients
- 1 loaf Cuban bread
- 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup pickles, chopped
- 1/4 pound Swiss cheese, sliced
- 1/2 pound roasted turkey breast, store-bought or leftovers, thinly sliced
- 1/2 pound honey baked ham, store-bought or leftovers, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons cranberry jam or chutney
- 2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 –Slice the bread in half lengthwise, then smother the inside of the bottom slice with the mustard.
Step 3 –Evenly top the mustard with the pickles.
Step 4 –Cover the pickles with the cheese slices, equally spacing them apart.
Step 5 –Top the cheese slices with the turkey slices, then with the ham slices.
Step 6 –On the remaining bread slice, smear the inside with the cranberry jam.
Step 7 –Replace the cranberry-coated slice of bread on top of the ham layer.
Step 8 –Brush the outside of the sandwich with the melted butter.
Step 9 –Wrap the sandwich in foil and place on a baking sheet.
Step 10 –Use a heavy object, such as a cast-iron skillet, to press down on the wrapped sandwich and leave it resting on top.
Step 11 –Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the sandwich until the bread is crisp and the cheese has melted, about 12-16 minutes.
Step 12 –Slice the sandwich and serve.
