Who would think that something so simple requires such precision to get it right?! The Ultimate BLT, when perfectly constructed, is a beautiful, tasty sight! Crisp lettuce, seasoned bright tomatoes, stacks of savory bacon, and some creamy avocados are precisely displayed on mayo-lined, lightly toasted white bread for an impeccably loaded sandwich. Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, thin-cut
  • 2 slices hearty white bread, thick-cut
  • 4 teaspoons butter, softened
  • 1 tomato, ripe
  • 1/2 avocado, ripe
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise or other preferred sauce
  • 2-4 pieces green leaf lettuce, washed and dried
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –In a large skillet over medium heat, add the bacon and fry until almost crispy, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 2 –Transfer the bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate and let it drain and cool slightly.

Step 3 –Cut each slice of the bacon in half, making 8 strips total. Cover the bacon pieces to keep them warm.

Step 4 –On a flat surface with a butter knife, spread both sides of each of the white bread slices with the butter.

Step 5 –In a medium skillet over medium heat, add the buttered bread slices and lightly toast them on both sides, about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to over-toast them.

Step 6 –On a clean cutting board, add the tomato and, using a clean, sharp knife, slice it into 3/8-inch-thick slices.

Step 7 –Transfer the tomato slices to a paper-lined-plate to absorb its moisture.

Step 8 –On a clean cutting board, add the avocado and, using a clean knife, peel, pit, and slice the avocado into strips.

Step 9 –On a flat surface and using a clean butter knife, add 1 1/2 tablespoons of the mayonnaise to 1 side of each of the toasted bread slices.

Step 10 –Add the lettuce, 2 slices of the tomato, the salt, and the pepper to one of the mayonnaise-covered bread slices.

Step 11 –Add the bacon on top of the tomatoes.

Step 12 –Add the avocado slices evenly on top of the bacon layer.

Step 13 –Add the remaining piece of the toasted bread, mayonnaise-side down, on top of the avocado layer and gently press it down.

Step 14 –Use a sharp serrated knife to cut the BLT in half.

Step 15 –Serve.
