  • 1 pound bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 4 slices white bread, crusts removed and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons basil, minced
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 6 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups grape tomatoes, halved


Step 1 –In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp.

Step 2 –Using a slotted spoon, place the bacon on paper towels to drain, reserving 2 tablespoons of the drippings.

Step 3 –Set bacon and the reserved drippings aside.

Step 4 –In another large skillet, melt the butter.

Step 5 –Add the bread cubes to the butter and cook over medium heat until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Step 6 –Using tongs, place the toasted bread cubes onto paper towels and allow them to cool.

Step 8 –In a large salad bowl, combine the romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, and bacon.
