Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cooking sherry, optional
  • thyme sprigs, optional, to taste, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 –Mix the ground beef, the breadcrumbs, the egg, the Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of the seasoned salt, the onion powder, the garlic powder, and the pepper in a large bowl until combined.

Step 2 –Form the meat mixture into 8 balls.

Step 3 –Flatten the balls into patties.

Step 4 –Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 5 –Add the patties and the onions and fry until the patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side.

Step 6 –Transfer the beef patties to a plate and keep them warm.

Step 7 –Sprinkle the flour over the onions and the drippings in the skillet and stir it in with a fork, while scraping the bottom of the pan to release the browned bits.

Step 8 –Gradually mix in the beef broth and the sherry.
