Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly, plus more for greasing the skillet or baking dish
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 cup buttermilk, shake before measuring
- 2 large eggs
Directions
Step 1 –Place the oven rack in the middle position.
Step 2 –Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 3 –Prepare a 9-inch cast-iron skillet or 9-inch square baking dish by lightly coating it with the butter.
Step 4 –Place the dish or skillet into the oven to heat up.
Step 5 –In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
Step 6 –Form a well in the center and add the honey, buttermilk, and eggs.
Step 7 –Stir well to combine.
Step 8 –Add in the melted butter and stir again to mix thoroughly.
Step 9 –Remove the hot pan or dish from the oven carefully.
Step 10 –Pour the batter into the hot skillet or dish.
