Ingredients
- 8 jalapeño peppers
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 green onion, minced
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 16 bacon slices
Directions
Step 1 –Preheat the grill to medium-high or preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Step 2 –Cut the stem off of each jalapeño. Then cut them in half lengthwise.
Step 3 –Using a small spoon or melon baller, scrape out the seeds and membranes of each jalapeño. This significantly reduces the spiciness of each pepper.
Step 4 –Combine the cream cheese, green onion, garlic powder, and cheddar cheese in a small mixing bowl. Stuff the cream cheese mixture into the jalapeño halves.
Step 5 –Wrap a piece of bacon around each jalapeño half. Secure the bacon with toothpicks.
Step 6 –Refrigerate the jalapeño poppers for at least an hour. This helps to prevent the cheese from melting out when you are grilling or baking them.
Step 7 –To grill the poppers, begin by greasing the grill. Then place them on the grill, cut side down, and cook just until the bacon begins to crisp (about 6 minutes).
Step 8 –Gently loosen the bacon from the grill and flip the jalapeños over. Reduce the heat to medium-low heat and cook for an additional 10-12 minutes or until the bacon is cooked and the cheese is melted.
Step 9 –To bake the poppers in the oven, place them cut side up on a baking sheet that’s been lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray.
Step 10 –Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and the bacon is crisp.
Step 11 –Serve hot!
