Brown Sugar Blondies

These little confections of joy are made with nutty, toasty brown butter and the smoky, molasses-infused sweetness of brown sugar, making each bite a complex and wonderful experience of flavors! Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, optional, chopped

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Line the bottom of an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.

Step 3 –In a small pan over medium heat, melt the butter.

Step 4 –Cook the butter, while gently swirling it, until it turns brown and starts to smell nutty, about 5 minutes.

Step 5 –Pour the browned butter into a large mixing bowl and allow it to cool slightly.

Step 6 –In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, the baking powder, and the salt together.

Step 7 –Add the brown sugar and the granulated sugar to the slightly cooled brown butter and mix using an electric hand mixer on medium speed until well-combined, about 2 minutes.

Step 8 –Add the eggs to the butter mixture and beat with the hand mixer on medium until the mixture has lightened in color, about 2 minutes.

Step 9 –Add the vanilla and beat until incorporated, about 30 seconds.

Step 10 –While running the hand mixer on low speed, slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stop mixing just before all of the flour is incorporated.

Step 11 –Add the walnuts to the batter and stir them in gently by hand just until all of the flour is fully mixed in.

Step 12 –Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Step 13 –Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 35-40 minutes.

Step 14 –Cool the blondies on a wire rack.

Step 15 –Cut into squares and serve.
