Classic Salisbury Steak

You just can’t get any cozier than this comfort food favorite. Classic Salisbury Steak takes you back to granny’s Sunday dinner table and we aren’t mad about it! The generous seasonings and the deep, rich brown gravy surrounding the fork-tender ground beef is the classic answer to all your granny’s-food-is-famous cravings. Add some creamy mashed potatoes and this Classic Salisbury Steak will have everyone running to your Sunday dinner table. Granny would love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed French onion soup, divided
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • mashed potatoes, optional, to taste, cooked and warm, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –In a large bowl, add the ground beef, 1/3 cup of the French onion soup, the breadcrumbs, the egg, the salt, and the black pepper and combine.

Step 2 –Shape the beef mixture into 6 oval patties.

Step 3 –In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the patties and brown on both sides. Drain the excess fat.

Step 4 –In a small bowl, blend the remaining French onion soup and the flour together until smooth.

Step 5 –Mix the ketchup, the water, the Worcestershire sauce, and the mustard powder into the soup mixture.

Step 6 –Pour the soup mixture over the patties in the skillet.

Step 7 –Cover and cook the Salisbury steak, stirring occasionally, until the patties reach an internal temperature of at least 170 degrees F, about 20 minutes.

Step 8 –Serve the Salisbury steak with the mashed potatoes, topped with the gravy.
