In fact, Golden Butterhorn Rolls will inspire bliss in everyone who takes a bite of one! The rolls are flaky and rich, with creamy butter flavor infused throughout every layer. Golden Butterhorn Rolls are an amazing side to just about every main course, but only if you can resist eating them on their own!
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for flouring a work surface
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, cold, cubed, or shortening
- 1 (0.25-ounce) package of active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup water, warm
- 3/4 cup milk, 2%, warm
- 1 large egg, room temperature, lightly beaten
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
Directions
Step 1 –In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
Step 2 –Cut in the 1 cup cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 3 –In another bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
Step 4 –Add the yeast mixture to the crumb mixture.
Step 5 –Add the milk and egg, mixing well.
Step 6 –Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours and up to overnight.
Step 7 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 8 –Grease two baking sheets.
Step 9 –Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
Step 10 –Lightly flour a work surface.
Step 11 –On the prepared surface, roll 1 portion into a 12-inch circle.
Step 12 –Brush the dough circle with 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
Step 13 –Cut the dough circle into 12 wedges.
Step 14 –Roll up each wedge, beginning with the wide end.
Step 15 –Place the rolls on the prepared baking sheets.
Step 16 –Repeat with the remaining dough portions.
Step 17 –Cover and let rise in a warm place until nearly doubled, about 1 hour.
Step 18 –Bake until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
Step 19 –Transfer the rolls to wire racks to cool slightly.
Step 20 –Serve warm.
