We aren’t sure exactly how this tasty combination came to be, but we are sure glad it did! Granny’s Beef Bake is the all-time most requested casserole at each and every gathering, and in just a couple bites, you will understand why! Granny knows how to please with all the layers of perfectly seasoned, tomato-sauced ground beef and the tangy sour cream-cream cheese combo, all snuggled in with wavy egg noodles and then topped with that melted sharp cheddar cheese. You know, we don’t know if this was an accidental or planned cooking experiment for her, but we do know that Granny’s Beef Bake sure passes the taste test every single time. It is Granny-created and everyone-approved!

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (8-ounce) package egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 large white onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • fresh parsley, to taste, chopped, for garnish

Step 1 –In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook, while crumbling, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess grease.

Step 2 –Add the tomato sauce, the sugar, the garlic salt, and the salt to the cooked ground beef, stirring to combine. Simmer until well-blended, about 20 minutes.

Step 3 –Transfer the tomato sauce mixture in the skillet from the stovetop to a wire rack, covering it and letting it cool to room temperature.

Step 4 –In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the egg noodles to al dente, according to the package directions, about 7-9 minutes. Drain the noodles.

Step 5 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 6 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 7 –In a large bowl with a hand mixer on medium-high speed, add the sour cream, the cream cheese, and the onion and mix until well-combined.

Step 8 –Evenly layer 1/2 of the cooked egg noodles on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Step 9 –Dollop and carefully spread 1/2 of the sour cream mixture on top of the cooked egg noodle layer.

Step 10 –Add 1/2 of the tomato sauce mixture on top of the sour cream mixture layer.

Step 11 –Repeat the layers.

Step 12 –Evenly sprinkle the sharp cheddar cheese over the top of the last layer of the tomato sauce mixture.

Step 13 –Bake until the sharp cheddar cheese is melted and golden-brown, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 14 –Garnish with the parsley and serve.
