Olivia’s Green Beans come from our dear friend Olivia, whose philosophy on vegetables is “keep it simple and keep it scrumptious!” You can see that theory on full display here; the green beans are bright and tender, sweetened with a little brown sugar and then heightened to savory grandeur with bacon crumbles! That’s all! Nothing too elaborate, but all the goodness of a great veggie dish without the hassle! In 30 minutes, you could be serving up Olivia’s Green Beans and setting a new standard for your side dishes!

Ingredients

  • 6 bacon strips, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 pounds fresh green beans
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

Step 1 –In a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat, add the bacon and cook, while stirring, until crisp, about 5 minutes.

Step 2 –Add the green beans, the brown sugar, and the water to the bacon and cook, while stirring gently, until the mixture comes to a boil.

Step 3 –Reduce the heat to low.

Step 4 –Cover the skillet and simmer until the green beans are crisp-tender, about 15 minutes.

Step 5 –Using a slotted spoon, transfer the green beans and the bacon to a serving bowl.

Step 6 –Serve.
