Oven-Baked STL Ribs

St. Louis barbecue is known for two things: spare ribs and barbecue sauce — lots and lots of barbecue sauce. In fact, St. Louis consumes more barbecue sauce than anywhere else in the U.S. So when you’re making Oven-Baked STL Ribs, make sure you have your favorite sauce for brushing down the tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs, so every bite has plenty of that tangy, smoky, sweet taste. The ribs themselves are savory and rubbed with a spice mixture perfectly blended to highlight the barbecue flavors. Oven-Baked STL Ribs will have you falling in love with barbecue all over again… or perhaps for the first time!

Ingredients

For the spice rub:

  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

For the ribs:

  • 3-4 pounds St. Louis Ribs
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce, of your choice, plus more, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –Combine the salt, the black pepper, the paprika, the garlic powder, the cayenne pepper, the oregano, and the brown sugar in a small bowl.

Step 2 –Rub the spice mixture on both sides of the ribs.

Step 3 –Let the ribs sit and absorb the spices for at least 15 minutes.

Step 4 –Place an oven rack in the middle position.

Step 5 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 6 –Wrap the ribs in foil and place the ribs on a baking sheet.

Step 7 –Bake until the ribs are tender, about 2 hours.

Step 8 –Remove the foil from the ribs.

Step 9 –Generously brush the ribs with 1 cup of the barbecue sauce.

Step 10 –Return the ribs to the oven and roast until the sauce has become darker and hot and the ribs are fully cooked through at 145 degrees F internally, about 20-25 minutes.

Step 11 –Cut the ribs into individual portions and serve with the extra barbecue sauce.
