Philly Cheesesteak Casserole

Philly Cheesesteak Casserole has the cheesiness and beefiness that makes its namesake sandwich so incredible, with sauteed onions and peppers for the complete experience. Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup yellow onions, diced
  • 1 1/2 cups green peppers, diced
  • 1 3/4 cups water, divided
  • 1 (0.87-ounce) package brown gravy mix
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups premade baking mix, such as Bisquick
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend, shredded

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –Add the beef to a large sauté pan over medium-high heat.

Step 4 –Cook, crumbling the beef, for about 4-5 minutes.

Step 5 –Add the diced onions and green peppers.

Step 6 –Cook, while stirring, until the beef is fully cooked, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 7 –Drain the fat from the pan.

Step 8 –Add 1 cup water, the gravy mix, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, cooking and stirring until no liquid remains at the bottom of the pan.

Step 9 –Remove the pan from the heat.

Step 10 –Add the baking mix and 3/4 cup water to a separate bowl, stirring until no large lumps remain.

Step 11 –Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 12 –Add the mayonnaise to the sauté pan with the ground beef mixture, stirring well.

Step 13 –Spoon the beef mixture over the batter in the baking dish.

Step 14 –Sprinkle the cheese on top of the ground beef mixture.

Step 15 –Bake until the cheese starts to brown on top and the batter is browned at the bottom of the pan, about 35-38 minutes.

Step 16 –Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Step 17 –Serve!
