Ingredients

For the French toast:

  • 4 tablespoons Nutella or chocolate sauce
  • 8 slices white bread, crusts trimmed, rolled flat
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the topping:

  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • maple syrup, optional, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of the Nutella on each slice of the bread and tightly roll them up.

Step 2 –In one shallow bowl, mix together the milk, the egg, 2 tablespoons of the sugar, and the vanilla with a whisk.

Step 3 –In a second shallow bowl, combine the remaining sugar and the cinnamon.

Step 4 –Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the butter until it melts.

Step 5 –Dip and fully coat each of the rolled-up bread slices in the milk mixture.

Step 6 –Place the custard-coated rolls into the heated skillet and cook, turning as necessary, until they are slightly crisp and golden-brown on all sides, about 2 minutes.

Step 7 –Continue until all of the rolls are cooked.

Step 8 –Immediately after removing each slice of bread from the skillet, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to fully coat.
