Asian Sesame Turkey Roast

So, before you turn to your normal turkey roasting recipe as the holidays start to roll in, might we encourage you to step outside of your cooking comfort zone a little with this Asian Sesame Turkey Roast? While you still get your juicy, tender bird that you’re accustomed to this time of year, the seasoning for this version gets switched up just slightly to give it an Asian-inspired flare. It’s a tasty, fun way to add some excitement and newness to your loved one’s gathering. Are you in?! Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 (3-pound) turkey roast, boneless and thawed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
  • baby bok choy, optional, to taste, roasted and warm, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –In a blender, add the soy sauce, the onion, the brown sugar, the garlic, the sesame seeds, the ginger, and the sesame oil and blend until smooth, about 1 minute.

Step 2 –Place the thawed turkey into a resealable bag and slowly pour in the marinade.

Step 3 –Press the air out of the bag and seal it tightly. Press the marinade around the turkey to fully coat.

Step 4 –Transfer the turkey to the refrigerator and let it marinate for at least 1 hour and up to overnight.

Step 5 –Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Step 6 –Place the turkey on the rack of a shallow roasting pan, reserving the marinade in the bag.

Step 7 –Roast the turkey, turning it once halfway through, until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 2 hours 30 minutes.

Step 8 –Switch the oven setting to broil. Brush the olive oil over the turkey and broil, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 9 –Let the turkey rest for 10 minutes.

Step 10 –In a small saucepan, add the reserved marinade and the flour and whisk until it is smooth.

Step 11 –Heat the marinade mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously, until it is thickened to a gravy consistency, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 12 –Remove the netting from the turkey roast and carve it into slices.

Step 13 –Serve the turkey with the roasted baby bok choy, topped with the gravy.
