Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
- 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1 cup Jarlsberg® cheese, shredded
- 1 (1.5-pound) beef top sirloin steak, 1-inch-thick and cut into 4 portions
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives, minced
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the grill to medium heat.
Step 2 -In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium-high heat.
Step 3 -Add the onions and cook until tender, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 4 -Add the garlic and cook until golden, about 2 minutes.
Step 5 -Stir in the hash browns and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt, spreading it in an even layer in the skillet.
Step 6 -Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes undisturbed.
Step 7 -Flip the hash browns and cook, covered, until heated through and the bottom is lightly browned, for about 5-6 minutes.
Step 8 -Sprinkle the Jarlsberg cheese over the top of the hash browns.
Step 9 -Cover the hash browns and keep warm, off of the heat.
Step 10 -Season the beef with the remaining salt and the pepper.
Step 11 -Grill the beef until it reaches the desired level of doneness, reading 135 degrees F for medium-rare, about 5-7 minutes on each side.
Step 12 -Remove the steaks from the heat and top each portion with 1/4 of the hash browns.
Step 13 -Garnish with the chives and serve.
