Mmmm, Fall Fritters are just tops! It really is that simple; jammy apples surrounded by a golden, tender, donut-like coating and drizzled with a cinnamon-sugar and cider glaze. It’s apples and cinnamon, the classic fall flavor pairing, all the way down! Time to run to the orchard and pick a bunch of apples, because you’ll be craving more Fall Fritters for a long time after eating them!

Ingredients

For the fritters:

  • 1 tablespoon butter, sliced, plus 1 tablespoon, melted, divided
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored, cut into 1/4-inch-diced pieces
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1/4 cup white sugar, divided
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup sparkling apple cider
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, plus more, to taste
  • cinnamon, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sparkling apple cider, plus more, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –In a pan over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of the sliced butter and cook, while lightly swirling it in the pan until it turns golden-brown, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 2 –Add the apples to the melted butter and cook until the apples just begin to saround the edges, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3 –Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the white sugar over the apples and cook until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.

Step 4 –Transfer the pan away from the heat.

Step 5 –Drain the apples in a strainer and allow them to cool to room temperature.

Step 6 –In a mixing bowl, add the flour, the baking powder, the salt, 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon, the ginger, and the nutmeg and whisk until well-combined.

Step 7 –In a separate mixing bowl, add the egg, the remaining white sugar, and the remaining melted butter and whisk to combine.

Step 8 –Add the cooled apple pieces and 1/2 cup of the apple cider to the egg mixture and stir to combine.

Step 9 –Add the wet ingredients mixture to the dry ingredients mixture and stir, just until the flour is incorporated.

Step 10 –In a deep-fryer or a large saucepan, add the oil and heat it to 350 degrees F.

Step 11 –In batches, spoon about 2 tablespoons of the batter into the hot oil, slightly flattening the batter out.

Step 12 –Fry the fritters on one side until small bubbles appear on the surface, about 2 minutes.

Step 13 –Carefully flip the fritters and fry them on the other side until they are browned, about 2 minutes.

Step 14 –Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fritters to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain.

Step 15 –Repeat the frying process, making sure to heat the oil back up to 350 degrees F between batches, until all of the batter is used.

Step 16 –Allow the fritters to cool slightly before glazing. However, don’t wait too long, as the glaze won’t stick if the fritters are cold.

Step 17 –In a mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup of the confectioners’ sugar and the extra cinnamon and whisk to combine.

Step 18 –Add 1 tablespoon of the apple cider slowly, 1 teaspoon at a time, to the powdered sugar mixture to form a glaze just runny enough to drizzle over the fritters. Add the extra cider if the glaze is too thick or the extra confectioners’ sugar if it is too thin.
