Guesthouse Breakfast Bake

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened, for greasing the dish
  • 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 (16.3-ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 3 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Using the butter, grease the bottom and the sides of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 4 –Add the sausage to the skillet and cook, while crumbling, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5 –Adjust the heat to medium. Evenly sprinkle the flour over the sausage and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.

Step 6 –Add the milk to the sausage mixture and stir to loosen any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Step 7 –Cook the sausage mixture, stirring often, for 7 minutes.

Step 8 –Season the sausage mixture with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and 1/4 teaspoon of the pepper, then transfer the skillet from the heat.

Step 9 –Add the eggs, the remaining salt, and the remaining pepper to the prepared baking dish and whisk until well-blended.

Step 10 –Cut each of the biscuits into quarters, then arrange them in a single layer over the eggs.

Step 11 –Sprinkle the biscuits with 1 1/2 cups of the cheddar cheese.

Step 12 –Pour the sausage mixture over the cheese layer and spread it out evenly.

Step 13 –Sprinkle the casserole with the remaining cheese.

Step 14 –Bake the casserole until golden and bubbly, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 15 –Allow the casserole to stand for 5 minutes.

Step 16 –Serve.
