Penne-For-Your-Thoughts Bake

Get ready to get lost in the sauce of this ooey-gooey, creamy, cheesy masterpiece. Inside you’ll find some slices of spicy sausage to fuel your mind and of course, plenty of tender, bouncy penne noodles to go around. Ingredients

  • 2 cups penne pasta, uncooked
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 1 1/2 cups 2% milk
  • 1 (10.75-ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup, undiluted
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar French-fried onions, divided
  • 1 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided
  • 1 cup frozen peas

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 –Grease a 13×9-inch baking dish.

Step 3 –In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta to al dente, according to the package directions. Drain.

Step 4 –While the pasta is cooking, in a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausage and cook, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess grease.

Step 5 –In a large bowl, combine the milk and the cream of celery soup.

Step 6 –Stir 1/2 cup of the onions, 1/2 cup of the cheese, the peas, and the sausage into the milk mixture.

Step 7 –Stir the pasta into the sausage mixture.

Step 8 –Transfer the pasta mixture to the prepared baking dish.

Step 9 –Cover the dish and bake until it is bubbly, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 10 –Sprinkle the bake with the remaining onions and the remaining cheese.

Step 11 –Bake the casserole, uncovered, until the cheese has melted, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 12 –Serve.
