Everyone loves French Toast, but virtually no one enjoys the messy soaking and frying parts. Baked French Toast Casserole skips those untidy steps and simplifies this gourmet breakfast sweet. Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package whipped cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 loaf bread, thick sliced
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • confectioners’ sugar, optional, for serving

Directions

Step 1 –In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, pecans, maple syrup, brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.

Step 2 –Beat together the milk, eggs, granulated sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl.

Step 3 –Spread your cream cheese mixture on one side of each slice of the bread.

Step 4 –Layer the bread slices at an angle in a 9×13-inch baking dish, cheese side up.

Step 5 –Pour the milk mixture over the bread evenly and completely throughout.

Step 6 –Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it chill in the fridge overnight, or about 8 hours.

Step 7 –When it’s time to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 8 –Mix together 2 tablespoons sugar with 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon.

Step 9 –Remove the casserole from the fridge and remove the plastic wrap.

Step 10 –Sprinkle the bread with the cinnamon sugar.

Step 11 –Bake in the oven until browned and the casserole is set, about 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 12 –Remove the casserole from the oven and dust the top with confectioners’ sugar.

Step 13 –Serve warm!
