Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3 medium-size yellow onions, very thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup white wine, divided
  • 1 (12-ounce) package of sour cream
  • 1 (8-ounce) package of cream cheese, softened
  • fresh parsley, to taste
  • soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce, optional, to taste

Directions

Step 1 –On a nonstick skillet, over medium heat, melt the butter.

Step 2 –Add the onions, salt, and sugar to the melted butter.

Step 3 –Sauté until the onions are very translucent and starting to brown, stirring every few minutes, for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 4 –Pour 1 tablespoon of wine into the onion mixture, letting it sizzle out and stirring.

Step 5 –Repeat until all the wine has been used.

Step 6 –Continue cooking the onion mixture until the onions are deep golden brown in color and fragrant, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 7 –Transfer the onions to a cutting board and coarsely chop.

Step 8 –In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese and sour cream.

Step 9 –Mix the onions and parsley into the cream cheese mixture.

Step 10 –Taste for seasoning.

Step 11 –Mix the soy sauce into the cream cheese mixture.

Step 12 –Serve with chips, crackers, or veggies.
