Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1 –Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 –Prepare an 8-inch square baking dish or pan by buttering it and then lining it with parchment paper.

Step 3 –In a bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Set the flour mixture aside.

Step 4 –Prepare a double-boiler by placing a heatproof bowl over a saucepan with 1 inch of very gently simmering water.

Step 5 –Add the chocolate and butter to the heatproof bowl.

Step 6 –When the butter and most of the chocolate are melted, turn off the heat and continue stirring until smooth. Set it aside.

Step 7 –In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar and eggs and beat with a hand mixer until very airy, thick, and creamy, about 5 minutes.

Step 8 –Add the vanilla extract to the egg and sugar mixture and, while the mixer is running at medium-high speed, slowly drizzle in the melted chocolate mixture. Pouring in the chocolate slowly and constantly whisking helps prevent the eggs from scrambling.

Step 9 –Turn the mixer down to the lowest speed and add in the flour mixture. Continue mixing until the flour is fully incorporated.

Step 10 –Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Step 11 –Bake on the center rack until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean, about 30 minutes.

Step 12 –Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack to room temperature for about 20-30 minutes.

Step 13 –Remove from the pan, slice into serving-size pieces, and serve!
